Ceramic Ferrite Magnets

Ceramic Ferrite magnets are commonly made of strontium carbonate and iron oxide. They are charcoal grey in colour and are not as powerful as the Rare Earth Neodymium or Samarium Cobalt. Ceramic ferrite magnets are very cost effective and if magnetized at the time of manufacture are called “anisotropic”. Shapes available are Disc, Block or Ring and custom shapes can be made on request. Ceramic magnets are not affected by moisture and the maximum operating temperature is 250 degree Celsius. They are also available in multi-pole orientations across one surface only (suited for close holding applications) and these are widely used in the craft industry as fridge magnets. Grade 8 is the strongest.
Handling: Ceramic magnets are hard and brittle, can easily chip or break if dropped or permitted to jump to an attracting object. If handling large Ceramic Magnets, use gloves and eye protection.
Machining: Ceramic Magnets are very brittle and not recommended to be machined using normal methods. They can be abrasively ground but it is a messy process. Wire cutting is the best method.
